In its December 15, 2004 cover story, the prestigious Wine Enthusiast Magazine has honored Mr. Mel Dick, Senior Vice President of Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. and President of the Company’s Wine Division, at its “Wine Star Man of the Year” for 2004. According to the editors of the magazine, the annual award recognizes “excellence in the wine and spirits industry.”

In a black-tie gala dinner, Mr. Dick will be honored, along with other “2004 Wine Star” honorees, in the Astor Hall and the Celeste Bartos Forum of the New York Public Library on January 24, 2005 in New York City.

Mr. Dick’s “Man of the Year” commendation from the Wine Enthusiast reads in part: “A native of Brooklyn, New York, Mel Dick has made innumerable contributions to the development of wine sales in the United States.”

Wayne E. Chaplin, President and Chief Operating Officer of Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc., said, “On behalf of Mel’s close associates and our more than 8,000 team members nationally, I want to congratulate Mel on this tremendous honor from Wine Enthusiast Magazine. We are all very proud and extremely thrilled for him.”

Harvey R. Chaplin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc., added, “I have known Mel for more than 30 years, and there is no one in this business who is more deserving of this great honor than my fellow Brooklyn-born friend. Congratulations to a fabulous competitor!”

Noting his honor, Mel Dick said, “Without the support of my wife, Bobbi, and my family as well as all my friends and associate at Southern and all my wine and spirits friends in the industry, I would not be here today. I am humbled, yet proud of this honor and enjoy every day working with my colleagues at Southern Wine & Spirits of America.”

As their 2004 “Man of the Year”, Wine Enthusiast Magazine features a portrait of Mr. Dick on the cover, and a detailed article about Mr. Dick’s distinguished career in the wine and spirits industry.
