Environmental Sustainability Statement
Southern Wine and Spirits of America, Inc. strives to provide outstanding sales and service while minimizing our environmental impact. Our efforts are aimed at promoting sustainable environmental practices through the efficient management of our capital assets such as facilities and trucks, reduction of energy and other natural resource consumption and recycling our packaging materials. We have implemented responsible practices through, for example, a Comprehensive Energy Management Program that consolidates and optimizes our consumption of fuel, electricity and natural gas. We also leverage Green Teams across our divisions to set goals that challenge us to increase efficiencies as we reduce waste.
Current Environmental Sustainability Efforts
Motion Sensor Systems have been installed at our distribution centers across the country to conserve energy nationwide. Energy usage is reduced up to 20 % through the use of theses systems.
Computer Telemetrics have been installed in Southern’s delivery vehicles across the country. These onboard computers provide real-time information on fuel consumption and speed that are used to help our drivers perform their jobs more safely and economically. Additionally, new idling and tire rotation policies have been put in place to maximize our fuel economy. Since 2009, the speed and shifting points on our new fleet vehicles has been optimized using computer simulation programs to minimize fuel consumption and maximize fleet and driver productivity.
Truck Aerodynamic Design
Southern’s trailers have been retrofitted to meet the EPA’s Smartway advisories for trailer skirts to reduce fuel consumption by deploying innovative equipment to reduce drag and increase fuel economy.
Truck Routing Improvements
Road-Net routing software has been installed across the country in an effort to increase routing efficiency, in turn reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
