PETER M. HICKEY NAMED EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, GENERAL MANAGER –CONTROL STATES DIVISION

STEVEN DICK APPOINTED VICE PRESIDENT, GENERAL SALES MANAGER OF NEW CONTROL STATES DIVISION WHILE RETAINING CURRENT LEADERSHIP OF COMPANY’S PENNSYLVANIA DIVISION
MIAMI – September 8, 2005 – Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc., the country largest wine and spirits distributor with operations in 19 states and pending in two more, today announced the formation of the first-ever National Organization within the Distribution-Broker Tier of the wine and spirits industry to focus exclusively on the needs of Control State Business, according to Wayne E. Chaplin, President and Chief Operating Officer of Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc., which now operates in eight Control States including: Maine, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Virginia as well as, pending regulatory approvals, in Mississippi and West Virginia.
Mr. Chaplin said, “We understand the Control State business is unique and requires a specialized focus, qualified know-how and specific resources – not only on a local basis, but also on a national basis. Given our growing presence in many of the Control State markets, we felt it warranted the focus that a Control States Division team can provide in order to work ever more closely with our Suppliers as well as being able to efficiently meet the needs of each Control State and the Government Officials who preside over them. The formation of this new Control States Division will enable us be totally aligned with our Suppliers’ Brands and Programs.”
Mr. Chaplin further announced that 25-year wine and spirits industry veteran Peter M. Hickey has been appointed Executive Vice President, General Manager – Control States Division of Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. Commenting on the appointment, Mr. Chaplin said, “We needed to start employing the best people in the industry to accomplish this and we are very proud that Peter will be joining us to lead our Control States team.” The appointment is effective, January 1, 2006.
Mr. Chaplin added, “Peter brings more than 15 years of Control State experience to our organization, including proven skills in leading Control State operations from the Supplier side of the business. Above all, we count on Peter contributing his expertise to our existing Control State business and our multi-state team.”
Prior to joining Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc., Mr. Hickey served as President of the Control States Unit of Allied Domecq Spirits, North America, and before that with Jim Beam Brands Company, a division of Fortune Brands, Inc, where he served as Vice President, Marketing and International Sales for its Peak Wines International group. Mr. Hickey is a graduate of Iona College, New Rochelle, New York, with a B.A. in Economics.
Mr. Hickey said: “I am extremely excited to join Southern Wine & Spirits of America and lead what I know will be the most dynamic and well-run Control States and Brokerage organization at the distribution tier within the drinks industry. I especially look forward to working closely with all the Southern Wine & Spirits local General Managers and interacting with all of our Supplier partners.”
According to Brad Vassar, Executive Vice President, General Manager Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc., to whom Mr. Hickey will be reporting directly to, Mr. Hickey will be assisted in his new roll by Steven G. Dick, who is currently Vice President General Manager of Southern Wine & Spirits Pennsylvania Brokerage operation. Mr. Vassar said, “We are excited that Steven will be working with Peter as we continue to build our presence and leadership capabilities in more Control State markets; Steven will add valuable experience to the ways Southern Wine & Spirits does business in Control State markets and together with Peter’s leadership, we are confident they will manage our new Control States Division in a manner that will benefit all of our trading partners.”
Additionally Mr. Chaplin said, effective with the date of these organizational changes, Mr. Dick will report to Mr. Hickey with all effected Control State General Managers being accountable to Mr. Dick. Further, Mr. Dick will continue to serve as Executive Vice President, General Manager of Southern Wine & Spirits of Pennsylvania.
