Southern Wine & Spirits of California Appoints Patrick Daul to Newly-Created Role of Senior Vice President – Sales & Marketing
October 10, 2011, Cerritos, California – Southern Wine & Spirits of California (SWS of California), a division of the nation’s largest wine and spirits distributor, Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. (Southern), announced today the appointment of Patrick Daul to Senior Vice President-Sales & Marketing for the State of California. In this newly-established role, Daul will report directly to SWS of California Executive Vice President-General Manager Jack Brennan.

According to Brennan, “Patrick will be sure that we stay ahead of the fast-paced, dynamic California marketplace. Patrick will work closely with me, all four selling division leaders and our back office executives to deploy best practices in Sales, Marketing and Operations all with the goal of making us ever-more efficient and effective.” Brennan added that, “No one is more qualified to take on this role than Patrick.”

Daul brings nearly 20 years of experience at Southern to this new, key transformational role—and his career path has taken him through all three California selling divisions—in leadership roles of increasing responsibility. Originally hired into SWS of California as the Director of Wine Sales for the Southern selling division in Northern California back in 1992, Daul moved from his Southern role in 1997 to Vice President-General Sales Manager (GSM) for American Wines & Spirits, running Northern California. He assumed the Northern California GSM role in 2002 for the newly-created Pacific Wine & Spirits (PWS) division, Southern’s Diageo/Moët Hennessy USA-dedicated division. Three years later, Daul was appointed Vice President-General Manager for PWS statewide—a role he has held ever since.

Commenting from a Southern Corporate perspective, Executive Vice President-General Manager Brad Vassar said, “Patrick is among the most energetic and creative executives we have at Southern. He regularly volunteers to lead strategic transformation projects, and has become a true ‘change agent’ at Southern. No doubt he is well prepared to partner with the California leadership team—especially selling division GMs Steve Harden, James Bradney, Jon Newlon and the new leadership of Pacific Wine & Spirits—to achieve elevated levels of performance in the state of California.”

“I am truly thrilled to take on this newly-created, state-wide role for Southern Wine & Spirits of California,” exclaimed Daul. We have built a highly-successful, multi-faceted organization here in California, but we are ready to make some enhancements to make it even more efficient and valuable to our trading partners and employees. I am ready to drive these improvements at a swift pace, applying new approaches aggressively—actively looking beyond our traditional industry competitors,” asserted Daul. “We must and will be ready to adopt best practices from across the CPG universe in order to be successful in the long run. I look forward to engaging my California colleagues to embed these enhancements into our business,” concluded Daul.

The process to select a successor for Daul’s PWS role is underway. Daul will be working closely with SWS-A Executive Vice President-General Manager Gerry Rivero to recruit his successor and manage a smooth transition at PWS. Daul will assume his new role full-time starting on January 1, 2012.
