Company Providing Immediate Emergency Support for Employees

SWS Charitable Foundation to Match Employee Relief Donations

Southern State Divisions Planning Additional Relief Events

(New York, NY) November 19, 2012: Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. (Southern), the nation’s leading wine and spirits distributor with operations in 35 states, has announced that it will be leveraging its caring culture and the generosity of its 12,500 employees from across the country in implementing a multi-level relief effort for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Southern’s three-pronged approach includes (1) emergency assistance to impacted Southern employees, (2) an employee donation matching program for the communities impacted by Sandy, and (3) Southern division-level relief benefits and fundraisers.

Speaking on behalf of the emergency assistance for Southern employees in the region, Executive Vice President & General Manager of Southern Wine & Spirits of New York (SWS of New York) Larry Goodrich said, “SWS of New York has had literally hundreds of employees with material impacts to their homes, cars and property. With generous support from our Corporate headquarters, SWS of New York has acted quickly to provide emergency help to the over 65 employees and their families who have experienced the most severe property damage from this tragic ‘super storm’.” Goodrich added, “Since a number of our employees lost virtually everything and no longer have inhabitable homes or functioning cars, it has been our top priority to make sure that these valued and struggling Southern family members have the resources to find safe, warm and dry shelter and reliable transportation so they can begin to put their lives back together.”

Regarding the broader relief efforts for those impacted in the region, the SWS Charitable Foundation will be matching employee donations to national and local relief organizations—dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000. Regarding this program, Wayne E. Chaplin, Southern’s President & Chief Operating Officer, remarked that “Southern Wine & Spirits of America employees across our 35 divisions—from Miami to Minnesota and Maui to Maine—have always dug deep to contribute generously to disaster relief efforts. Whether it was relief for Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma, the earthquake in Haiti, or wildfires in Colorado—to name just a few recent relief efforts—Southern employees and our Charitable Foundation have often partnered to demonstrate the Company’s caring and concern for the communities in and beyond our markets of operation.” Chaplin added, “We anticipate the same high level of generosity for Hurricane Sandy relief and have already begun to see our employees actively contribute toward this matching fund.”

At the time of this announcement, a number of Southern divisions were also planning to host Hurricane Sandy relief benefit events. Specifically, Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada—in conjunction with New York, New York Hotel & Casino and numerous New York restaurants that also call Las Vegas home—will host a food and wine extravaganza to include celebrity chefs who likewise have close ties to both the Big Apple and Las Vegas. The event is scheduled for Sunday, December 9th, 2012 on the Brooklyn Bridge at New York, New York Hotel & Casino—with 100% of the proceeds going to the Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort.

In addition, Food Network & Cooking Channel, Southern Wine & Spirits of America and SWS of New York will host more than 1,000 New York City seniors, singles and families who were impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Participants will get a welcomed reprieve from the effects of the storm and preparing a holiday meal by attending "Our Table is Yours", a special Thanksgiving Dinner at Cipriani Wall Street®. In addition to enjoying a family-style holiday meal, guests will be entertained by celebrity chefs and other special guests.

As details related to these and other division-level programs arise, the Company will share them.
