Pensions & Investments’ Eddy Award Honors Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. with the 2013 First Prize for “Ongoing Education: Corporate”
Miami, FL, May 28, 2013 – Lee F. Hager, Executive Vice President, Secretary & Chief Administrative Officer, Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. (Southern), announced today that Pensions & Investments (P&I)—the leading news, events and data source for money managers, investment consultants and institutional investors—has honored Southern’s 401K materials entitled “Toast to a Better Future” with a First Place Eddy Award in the “Ongoing Education: Corporate” category for 2013. The award was conferred during a March 10, 2013 ceremony.

The Eddy Awards, presented annually by P&I since 1995, recognize plan sponsors and service providers that epitomize the best practices in providing investment education to defined contribution plan participants.

Commenting on how proud Southern’s senior management is on receiving this prestigious award, Hager said: “Harvey R. Chaplin and Wayne E. Chaplin always say, ‘Our employees are our most valuable asset,’ and this impressive recognition from Pensions & Investments is an important demonstration of our philosophy when it comes to helping our employees to plan and manage their retirement investments.” Hager continued, “This First Prize also shows that we bring only the highest professional standards to these efforts. We would like to extend our thanks and congratulations to Michael Head and his entire Human Resources team as well as to Michelle Toney, Certified Employee Benefit Specialist and Southern’s Director of Benefits, on this special award.”

In praising Southern for its First Prize, P&I said, “Superb branding alone would have made this entry a winner. Then again, an amazingly engaging 401(k) rock song custom-designed for the plan would have done the trick. But so would the video of the ‘savologist’ explaining investment education in an entertaining, accessible way. Not to mention, (marked) participation increase(s)...” In addition to commending Southern, P&I also noted Southern’s service provider partners—PartnerComm, Inc. and Welch Hornsby Investment Advisors—in the award description.

Southern’s Executive Vice President, General Manager Brad Vassar said, “We are all extremely proud of this 2013 P&I Eddy Award and want to extend our congratulations to Michelle, Michael and our entire Human Resources team.”
