SOUTHERN WINE & SPIRITS OF AMERICA, INC. EXPANDS ITS FINE WINE TEAM - Jim Allen Appointed as Senior Vice President, Fine Wines
Miami, Florida, December 13, 2010 – Mel Dick, Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc.’s (Southern) Senior Vice President & President Wine Division, along with Jack Brennan, Executive Vice President, General Manager of Southern Wine & Spirits of California, Inc. today announced the appointment of Jim Allen as Senior Vice President, Fine Wines. Allen will report directly to both Mel Dick and Jack Brennan in this new dual role.

Commenting on how these promotions will help strengthen the Company’s fine wine focus across the country, Mel Dick said, “Jim is truly among the most respected fine wine people within the industry. He will be Southern’s senior executive in the all important and growing California wine regions—closely managing our relations with our California fine wine partners there. Steve Slater and I are thrilled to welcome Jim to our corporate wine team. Jim will also be an invaluable resource to our California leadership team led by Jack Brennan.

Brennan added, “Jim will be looking for opportunities to enhance and grow existing relationships with our all-important fine wine suppliers in California while also looking to add select new suppliers to our portfolio. I have worked closely with Jim for many years and have seen how his knowledge of wine and passion for our industry translate into improved communication and coordination with our suppliers and customers alike.”

Allen has been with Southern for 32 years—most recently serving as Executive Vice President-Wines for the Southern-Odom/Spirits West joint venture in the Pacific Northwest. He will draw on his unparalleled knowledge and winery relationships from his past experiences and spend the majority of his time in the California wine country meeting with suppliers, discussing issues related to the local markets and proposing strategies to address the unique challenges of these wineries.

This promotion is effective January 1, 2011.
