BenRiach distillery regains independence
  
Since 1898, the BenRiach distillery has been discreetly producing quality single-malt Scotch whisky, which, until recently, has only been available in tiny quantities.   
   Located in the heart of Speyside in the northeast of Scotland, the distillery has gone though several acquisitions by multinationals and was even mothballed for a brief spell within the last three years. But now BenRiach is once again producing its very special single-malt whiskies – this time as an independent distiller with international distribution.
   In April 2004, Scotch whisky veteran Billy Walker, and South Africans Geoff Bell and Wayne Keiswetter purchased the distillery and teamed up with Preiss Imports, an ultra-premium spirits specialist, to bring BenRiach to California for the first time. The repackaged line from selected barrels includes single-malt whisky at 12, 16 and 20 years and the extravagantly peated 10-year-old Curiousitas and 21-year-old Authenticas.
