The Torres name has become inextricably linked with cutting-edge wine production and international marketing. The Spanish family’s commercial activity began in 1800, with a horse-drawn carriage used to transport wine in wooden barrels. The family built their first winery in Vilafranca del Penedès in 1870. The company currently sells wine in more than 120 countries.
Decanter magazine credits Miguel Torres, an industry visionary who runs the company, with changing the taste of Spanish wine, transforming Penedès into a globally renowned fine wine region and inspiring “a new generation of Hispanic winemakers to follow his quest for quality.”
The Torres family marked a milestone in their winery’s history in 2004, when they celebrated the 50th anniversary of the popular branded perennial Sangre de Toro, a blend of Garnarcha, Carinena and Syrah that has become a symbol of state-of-the-art Mediterranean and Spanish wine production.
