|ABC, Diageo and Southern Wine Continue Partnership To Help Soldiers and Sailors Get Home Safely |
NORFOLK, Virginia, February 22, 2010 – If soldiers or sailors choose to drink alcohol they can receive a free taxi ride home by utilizing the Military Safe Rides Home Program.
The designated-driver program, sponsored by Diageo and Southern Wine & Spirits and supported by the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), allows military men and women who are at least 21 years old to receive a free ride to their residence or base from six participating establishments.
"We are proud to renew our partnership with Diageo and Southern Wine to continue this program," said ABC Chairman J. Neal Insley. "The program helps keep soldiers and sailors safe in Virginia while they defend our freedom at home and abroad."
When a soldier or sailor consumes alcohol at a participating establishment, they should ask the manager to help them receive a free ride with Norview or Black & White Cabs. The destination must be within 30 miles.
"We want to express our sincere appreciation to military personnel. We are grateful for their service, patriotism and devotion to our country." said ABC Commissioner Sandra C. Canada. "The goal of this program is to ensure our military men and women get home safely when they've consumed alcohol."
