Managing Director of SWS of Nevada
Beginning in 1984 as a supervisor in Las Vegas, Tim McCarthy has steadily worked his way up in a variety of sales and management duties to his present position as Managing Director of Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada. Appointed to this post in 1993, McCarthy is responsible for all aspects of Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada. Not long after he joined Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada, he moved to Northern Nevada as General Sales Manager of the firm’s operation there. Then in 1991, Mr. McCarthy was promoted to General Manager, followed in 1993 with his promotion in the company to Managing Director for the State of Nevada.
McCarthy frequently flies to Reno for meetings. In the last year, however, Mr. McCarthy has become, he says, a great believer in video conferencing, timing statewide meetings to involve the company’s senior sales executives in both Las Vegas and Reno. Mr. McCarthy reports that video conference meeting has quickly proven itself to be a terrific time and money saver for the entire company. Critical as these reasons are, Mr. McCarthy really like this technology for its ability to boost the firm’s statewide sales efforts. Assessing the importance of these video conferences for the statewide operation of Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada, Mr. McCarthy says: “It’s been a huge step forward, and it allows us to include an additional level of sales managers in a meeting who other wise in the past might not have been included when travel was involved. This is the future.”
Mr. McCarthy adds that many suppliers have also responded enthusiastically to his invitation to join in these video conference meetings. Indeed, he reports that many brands owners have already participated in these statewide video conferences in order to present and discuss new sales programs for a given brand of line of products. Mr. McCarthy is extremely bullish about the future prospects of the Nevada market, including the Lake Tahoe area, which continues to be a strong draw, especially for Northern California residents. Overall, Mr. McCarthy says, “We feel very positive about the future.”
