Southern Wine & Spirits of New York And Winery Partners Donate $120,000 to Habitat for Humanity - New York in Brownsville, Brooklyn

Southern and 10 Leading Winery Partners Contribute to Completion of 53,000- square-foot Complex for Families in Need

SYOSSET, NEW YORK - April 8, 2009:  Southern Wine & Spirits of New York, a division of Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc., the country’s leading wine and spirits distributor and Control States Broker with a tradition of service excellence since 1968, announced today that the Company along with 10 of its leading winery partners are partnering with Habitat for Humanity - New York City in the construction of a 41-unit, 53,000-square-foot multifamily affordable condominium complex in Brownsville, Brooklyn. The Southern Wine & Spirits partnership is supplementing the project’s overall budget with a $120,000 donation. Construction is expected to be completed later in 2009.

According to Larry Goodrich, Executive Vice President, General Manager, Southern Wine & Spirits of New York, the Company’s own donation to the project was combined with generous contributions from 10 of its winery partners, including: Champagne Pommery, Delicato Family Vintners, W.J. Deutsch and Sons, J. Lohr Estates, Mendocino Wine Company, Palm Bay International, Pernod Ricard USA, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, Trinchero Family Estates and The Wine Group.

Josh Lockwood, Executive Director of Habitat-NYC, said: “Habitat for Humanity – New York City gives a hearty toast to Southern Wine and Spirits and its industry partners. Thanks to their generosity, many hardworking, responsible New York City families will have the opportunity to own safe and affordable homes and to provide a better future for their children.” Lockwood noted the Brownsville project features a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom condos within a group of three, four-story buildings.

Harvey R. Chaplin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc., said, “Having been born and raised in Brownsville, I am especially proud and gratified to be involved in this extremely worthy project which is destined to enhance the lives of working families who will now be able to afford and move into a new apartment complex, as  well as the entire Brownsville community at large.” Mr. Chaplin added, “On behalf of our Company, I also want to acknowledge and extend my personal thanks to all our winery partners whose executives have generously supported this Habitat for Humanity – New York City community-based project.”
