"2004 produced some great white wines, and the Kunde Estate Reserve Chardonnay from this year is a particular standout. It's crammed with great aromas that might make you think you're dining on baked fruit and fresh bread. The '04 Kunde Reserve has it all: complexity, boldness, and the crispness to age. Maybe that's because the blend is from clones selected from all around the world. This yummy wine gives full pleasure now, though will continue to be enjoyable as it reaches peak maturity in 4 to 5 years. It will cozy up to nice fresh seafood in the near term but buy a few bottles to try with roast chicken later."

In 1995, we began replanting some of our Chardonnay vineyards to new clonal selections. After observing the vines and tasting the results, we find for our Reserve Chardonnay selection, we like the combination of an old Wente selection clone, the 'Clone 15' selected in trials by Washington State Univerity, and a Clone 18 selection from Italy. These different clones provide a unique flavor portrait with great intensity and structure. The fruit for this particular harvest was picked between August 12 and September 1 at an average Brix of 23.2°.
